CEO says AvtoVAZ plans to restart production in early June

SAMARA, May 24 (PRIME) -- Russian carmaker AvtoVAZ, which has been in and out of downtime since early March amid a deficit of components, plans to restart production in early June and then gradually reach the full output volume, CEO Maxim Sokolov told reporters on Tuesday.

"Of course, we should launch production soon, literally at the beginning of next month, start production of models, of the model range, and then gradually restore it in full," Sokolov said.

“We have been, remain and will remain the flagman of the Russian automobile industry, will do everything possible for this. Of course, it also includes an increase in import substitution, perhaps, new suppliers and logistics chains, in the first place in the Samara Region, in the Volga Federal District, but not only that,” he added.

The company’s summer corporate vacation was moved to April because of the deficit as well.

Former Vice Governor of St. Petersburg Sokolov was appointed as the CEO of AvtoVAZ earlier in May.
